General Sculpture - Open Practice (23/24)

Course Overview

This course provides an opportunity to explore a broad range of sculptural concepts and processes in line with your level of experience and expertise. With guidance from your tutor you will have the opportunity to undertake projects of your choosing, and to work in materials of your choice. Topics are determined by your ideas and areas of interest. Processes you may wish to explore could include: constructing with card, paper, wood, wire, working with different metals, modelling and casting using mod roc, and working with 'recycled and 'found' objects. The course will also involve some drawing and personal research into artists suggested by your tutor and of your own choosing. You may chose to work figuratively, focus on themes around nature, or abstract concepts.

This course is aimed at but not exclusively for learners with some experience of working in 3D and anyone wanting to explore new sculptural processes. Please wear safety shoes and aprons or old clothes. There may be some background noise in this busy studio.

What topics are covered?

Topics are determined by your ideas and areas of interest as well as choice of material, these include: wirework, recycled and found objects, modelling and casting using paper and mod roc; construction with metals and wood. You may chose to work figuratively, focus on themes around nature, or abstract concepts.

This course is for those with some experience of the sculptural process and understanding of the formal elements. You need to be willing to learn new processes and challenge your ideas. Not suitable for beginners.
Through the use of materials and in discussion with your tutor and technician. You will be expected to develop a personal theme for your work based on sculptural concepts.
If you wish to use specialist plaster you will need to buy this.
