Hi I’m Tom, an international business student at Bath College, and Ive been doing work experience in the marketing department at the college.

During my work experience I got to see what Bath College’s marketing department do and what their team consisted of it has two Graphic Designers, a Schools Liaison Officer, Web Development Officer and Marketing Officer, Marketing Manager and Deputy Marketing Manager.

I attended college events for Bath College’s social media such as, sugar smart and Kooth in the student union, early years talk, the stone masonry competition at Somer Valley.

I wrote write ups for Bath college’s website like, Bath college’s top three apprenticeships for the month, showing which top 3 apprenticeships are available. Read it here.

I also wrote about Eliwell controllers supporting bath college’s refrigeration students by briefing them about controllers and panels as they have begun their electric module. Read it here.

I also spoke with Tom Wills, a student from Bath College who has recently opened his own business in a renovated horse box and wrote an article about it here.

I also attended the the Somer Valley ‘space’ themed stone carving competition. I spoke to the judges and staff and did a write-up. See the art and how the competition progressed here.

One of my tasks was to go and take photos for marketing purposes and to use for the website. I went into several classes and took pictures, picked the best ones and uploaded them onto the website. I also spoke with Bath College’s graphic designers and got to have a go at a graphic design task.

On my last day, I got to do a twitter takeover, where I had questions from the public and even got a mention from innocent smoothies! During the twitter takeover I learned how to use Hootsuite which is used for scheduling social media.

I personally learnt and understood what skills are needed for a college marketing department, what software they use, what the day to day life is like and got more of an insight into what marketing is actually like.
