Information Technology BTEC Introductory Diploma Level 1 – Somer Valley Campus
Are you interested in developing your information technology skills by using a more practical approach? Do you want to learn more about websites, computer programs, digital graphics, digital communication and solving technical IT problems? This course offers the opportunity to develop these practical skills in Information Technology that will help you enhance your learning for future progression.
What topics are covered?
This course will help you develop your knowledge about the IT industry and introduce you to the technologies used in the sector. The wide range of topics will help you decide which path to choose in your IT career.

• Solving Technical IT Problems
• Creating a Digital Animated Graphic
• Using Digital Communication Technologies

Who is the course aimed at?
This course is most suited for people aged 16-18 who are just starting (out on their) vocational learning.
What are the entry requirements?
You must have at least an Entry Level 3 in Maths or English and a Level 1 in Maths or English. In addition to this you must have two good GCSEs at grade E and above.
Alternatively, you must have a full relevant Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies at Pass Level. You will also need a recommendation from your tutor.
How will I learn?
This course combines classroom education and practical work-based experience, including providing IT solutions and support to local customers and working on real-life projects.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed using a set of work-related, real-life assignments. There will be practical assessments throughout the course where appropriate. There are no exams but you must meet assignment deadlines.
What can I do after this course?
This nationally recognised qualification provides opportunities for you to enter employment in the IT sector or to progress to more advanced vocational qualifications in IT or other courses.
Are there any additional costs?
The IT equipment required for the course is provided by the College. However, it would be an advantage if you have a PC with compatible software at home for independent study and to help you meet the deadlines. You will be required to purchase a relevant textbook for the course.
