Access to Higher Education Health and Social Care Diploma (Distance Learning)

Course Overview

Aimed at 19+ learners looking to gain the skills and qualifications required to enter university, this Access to Higher Education Diploma will develop your skills, confidence and education potential enabling you to pursue a degree in a range of healthcare professions including; nursing, midwifery, paramedic science and social work. As a distance learner you will receive live, remote teaching weekly and have full access to our support and wellbeing team for any academic and personal needs throughout your studies.

Who is the course aimed at?

The course aims to develop your subject specific knowledge and skills in relation to your chosen pathway to ensure you are suitably trained and experienced to progress successfully on to undergraduate study in your chosen subject.

What are the entry requirements?

GCSE Grade C/4 in English and Maths. It is important to check with the university you wish to progress on to in case further GCSE subjects are required by them.

How will I learn?

There will be 5 hours of live teaching per week (1 hour per day) and 2.5 hours additional subject specific 1.1s or group work per week. You will also receive a weekly 1.1 tutorial with a personal academic tutor who will support your learning and development and provide advice and guidance. The programme delivery will be 50% live, remote teaching and 50% directed independent study (via a detailed scheme of work fully resourced and available on our virtual learning environment, Microsoft Teams). You will be expected to supplement the live teaching sessions with an additional 7.5 hours each week, directed study. On top of this you will need to allocate time to further research and study to complete your assessments. This course is aimed at self-motivated individuals that are unable to attend a full-time face-to-face provision due to work and family commitments. You will be assessed via a mixture of coursework, examinations and reports ensuring you are well versed in the variety of assessment methods that will be applied at university.

What can I do after this course?

During the course we will help you to apply to university to study your choice of subject. We can give you lots of advice and guidance when you come for your interview and throughout your studies and 98% of students who applied to university gained a place on their chosen course in the last academic year. Students have gone on to study a variety of subjects at a wide range of Universities.

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you apply for your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course.
