It has helped plotting and planning a story and how a story is put together as well as exploring different avenues in genre of stories. It provides constructive criticism on your work from fellow peers.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course and was struck by Fiona ‘s enthusiasm, positive support, and splendid subject knowledge. I really valued the weekly homework which she carefully read and supplied encouraging feedback. I would definitely recommend this wonderfully delivered course.

It was very enjoyable and lively, with a chance to learn technique from the teacher and also a chance to meet a great cross section of interesting people who may not have normally met. It was also very good at building up your confidence by getting you to write on a myriad of subjects and then reading out to the rest of the class (although the teacher kindly offered to do this for you if necessary!). Anyway, it was so good that I signed up for the next term.

Was a great course. The teacher (Fiona) was absolutely brilliant and made the lessons fun and interesting. I learned a lot from her. She is very encouraging and supportive. The tasks outside of the classes were great and kept me occupied.

I recently finished this creative writing course and would like to place on record my gratitude for the availability of the course. I enjoyed my time on the course very much and would recommend it to other aspiring writers as a good starting point for people who may have the slightest interest in exploring techniques and tips for becoming a writer.

I signed up for this course because I wanted to write a novel but had no idea where to start, the tutor was an inspiration. She explained the process of how writing novels and illustrated her classes with a rich seam of literary examples. Each session involved lots of discussion, interspersed with useful exercises which was reviewed with encouragement. I couldn’t recommend the tutor more highly and my novel is now underway…

I enjoyed the course very much. It has helped me to further develop my creative writing skills and the improvements have been noticed by members of the local Writers Circle that I belong to. The tutor was very flexible in her approach. I have recommended this course to others.

I was actually a bit disappointed with this course – I had hoped to learn about the technical side of creative writing, but apart from one week (where a substitute stepped in to cover for illness), most of the classes were wafty chatty rambling with very little structure. Other than the social aspect of meeting other writers, I don’t feel I gained very much. I was also a little surprised that there was no discussion of how the students might take their work further after the course had finished, and no mention of recent developments such as online publishing and ebooks.

The tutor is a lovely lady, but her teaching style was not for me.
