Gallery Curatorship ( with 44AD )

The Gallery Curatorship course offers an insightful and inspiring programme, which is aimed to support the development of your curatorial skills.
Alongside delivering a comprehensive overview of curatorial theory and research that will explore collections, documentation, installation and display, this course will feature an invaluable series of visiting talks from professional curators and gallerists.
The Gallery Curatorship course will primarily be practice led; guiding you through the extensive practicalities of curating a professional contemporary art exhibition. Students will be expected to keep a folder that documents their research and final exhibition publicity.

The course will primarily be practice led, to include the group arrangement and curation of two art exhibitions – The Love2learn exhibition and final exhibition as part of Fringe Arts Bath.

You will be supported throughout the exhibition process from conception to view. Topics covered include: exhibition themes and context, submissions and art selection, supporting literature, promotion, aesthetics/display/curation, private view arrangement, documentation and review. Each step will be explored, alongside relevant contextual studies.

 

Please note it is important to allow additional time for personal study, folder work and exhibition arrangements (see below for timetable)

 

The Love2learn exhibition:  On-site curation and Take down will take one week – February 2017 dates to be confirmed.

 

Final exhibition:

On-site curation will take one week 21/05/17 – 26/05/17

Take down – one day only – 26/06/17

 

Who is the course aimed at?

Anyone wishing to develop their curatorial skills. No previous experience necessary.

Are there any additional costs?

Please note that on the field trip travel and accommodation expenses are not included in the fee.

  • A4 folder to keep work in.
  • Writing materials

There will be after hours visits to local commercial galleries
