Introduction to Beauty Level 1
This Introduction to Beauty Level 1 course is ideal for school leavers interested in a career in hair or beauty therapy. The qualification provides access to understanding what is involved within the hair and beauty sector, specialising in beauty therapy. Depending on your specialism, units can include, create a hair and beauty image, nail art and skin care, basic makeup application, hand care, basic pedicure, skin care, plaiting and salon reception duties. As a full-time student at Bath College, you will follow a study programme consisting of a vocational diploma, Maths and English, employability skills, volunteering and tutorial sessions.
What topics are covered?
Units will be finalised at interview. Depending on which route you take, the following units are available:
- Basic make-up application
- Hand care
- Providing basic pedicure
- Nail art application
- The art of photographic make-up
- Skin care
- Salon reception duties

Who is the course aimed at?
This course is most suited for people aged 16-18 who are just starting (out on their) vocational learning.
What are the entry requirements?
- Four GCSEs at grade G/1
- Evidence of ability to work at Level 1
- An interest in Hair and Beauty together with a caring nature, good communication skills and the ability to work with others
What qualifications will I gain?
VTCT Level 1 Award/Certificate/Diploma in an Introduction to Hair and Beauty Sector.

How will I be assessed?
Continuous practical, work-based assessment will be used to teach and develop vocational skills. There will be written assignments and tests of knowledge and understanding throughout the programme.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.

- Scissor / knife policy
A basic stationery pack will be issued to enrolled students.
