Lovely would prefer more time working on a life size rather than moving darts around at start. But lovely course to start.

Tutor very good. Good course, any more would result in too much waiting around to ask questions, 6 is perfect.

Shame someone was allowed to make own project and not a skirt as course was listed, much more help was needed as a result as I would have also chosen to make trousers had I known.

Over and above what was specified. I was a very awkward student wanting to make dungarees instead of a skirt! Jo supported me to try and make this happen. I now have lots of homework to complete.

The final details about attending the course were sadly missing. However, the course itself was brilliant. The tutor was excellent teacher and I ended the day feeling that I had achieved something in having a bodice top that actually fitted my rather unique, to say the least, shape. The day was interesting and very enjoyable.

A good first session, creating a pattern block. The course tutor, was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and (especially in my case) very patient!

Having only really previously sewed garments from self-taught ideas, it has been extremely useful to learn some exact pattern drawing and drafting techniques. The class size was reasonable; 9 of us had space to draw out our pattern blocks and use meter rules, without knocking into each other. We all worked at slightly different pace though, with varying prior experience so many of us were vying for Jo’s attention. However, we all successfully drafted our pattern blocks, by the end of the session.

I really appreciated how the tutor shared her own experiences of drafting as a dressmaker and as a professional, and gave suggestions for how to do things for either of these starting points e.g. when adding add seam allowances for a personal dress, you might want to add a larger seam allowance – future proofing any slight body changes, whereas you would use minimum seam allowances for a professional pattern to use the least amount of fabric.

While the tutor was excellent, information from the administration side was very last-minute; the course equipment list was only sent out the day before, meaning it was impossible to ensure we had everything we needed. The tutor very kindly provided some equipment.

Only other thing that I would suggest is that, it would be useful to have a very brief, written timetable provided listing the different tasks we need to accomplish, e.g. Take measurements, draft master, trace pattern block, cut pattern block, cut fabric?

I really recommend this course and I’m definitely going to join the other sessions.

This one day course was WONDERFUL and very informative. The tutor was flexible in her approach and shared her industry knowledge which was very interesting and made the art of pattern cutting clearer to me. I only wish I could be at the next two sessions in the spring for the bodice! Thank you!!
