Bath College students went to Avonmouth to visit the Bristol Biffa Waste Management Centre to see what happens to their recycling.
The trip was organised by the Student Union as part of their Green Campaign to encourage students to be more environmentally aware and be responsible for their own recycling.
The trip was attended by students studying Product Design and Public Services and Catering.
Students were shown how the mixed recycling bins are separated out in the plant, some by machinery but a lot of the sorting is done manually.
Hayley Hayward-Boyle, Student Participation Officer said: “The trip was fascinating and a good insight into what happens to the things we just throw away.
“I hope more people will be passionate and care about the environment.”
Students were very engaged with the presentation from Biffa, asking questions about sustainability and the future of recycling.
